Established in 2001, Troy Bike Rescue (TBR) is a staple of the North Central Troy community and the broader Capitol District. We started when our founder saw bicycles in a repairable condition being scrapped and decided to use these abandoned bikes as a tool to build community, nurture skills, and improve people’s lives by offering bicycles to those who need transportation. In 2011, we purchased our own building, located at 3280 6th Ave, where we have operated continuously since.
Our Youth Shop started shortly after we purchased our building. We mentor and work with mostly North Central young people during the warmer months. We have worked hard to build anti-racist structures. Our positive after-school programming is an anti-gun violence strategy that allows young people to experience constructive adult role models, allows older youth to act as mentors to their younger counterparts, and provides a safe space for young people to spend their otherwise unstructured time during the summer and after school.
We have been using the bicycle as a tool to bring people together for over 2 decades now!

Troy Bike Rescue (TBR) is a non-profit volunteer-run cooperative dedicated to making cycling accessible and practical to everyone in the greater Troy area. We build community by providing a welcoming and communal workspace, knowledgeable staff, and the tools and parts for cyclists of all ages and skill levels to repair, maintain, and acquire bicycles. TBR aims to facilitate healthy and sustainable transportation through bicycle programs, events, and advocacy in our immediate community and beyond.
